Interstate 80 closed in both directions amid whiteout conditions and collisions

Caltrans closed Interstate 80 in both directions Thursday evening, citing multiple collisions and whiteout conditions.

As of 6:30 a.m. Friday, the highway was shut down from Colfax to the Nevada state line.

Caltrans said there was no estimated time of reopening.

Live traffic cameras showed several inches of snow on the highway.
