A quick stop for bread made a Virginia man $100,000 richer after he bought a winning ticket at the register.

At first, Terence Nevins told lottery officials that he couldn’t believe it.

“Is this real, or am I looking at this wrong?” he thought after realizing the big win, according to lottery officials.

Nevins bought his Powerball lottery ticket and his bread from the 7-Eleven on Lee Hill School Drive in Fredericksburg, according to lottery officials. Typically, the winning ticket would have won him $50,000, but Nevins spent another dollar for the Power Play option, which doubled his prize.

Nevins used Easy Pick at the store, which randomly selected the numbers on his ticket. He didn’t tell anyone right away that he won big, he told lottery officials.

“I first kept it to myself,” he told lottery officials. “I called my sister, and I told her. She was screaming on the phone.”

Nevins’ ticket matched four numbers, plus the Powerball number, lottery officials said. The odds of matching all six numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, and the odds of winning any Powerball Prize are 1 in 25, according to the Virginia Lottery.

Fredericksburg is about 60 miles north of Richmond.
