Nurse buys lottery ticket after ‘voice’ tells her to — and it pays off big in Maryland
E. Burrell was recently in the car with her son when something strange happened.
The 62-year-old nurse from Baltimore plays the lottery every day, but while in the car that day, she heard a voice in her head, she told officials, according to a May 3 Maryland Lottery news release.
“Out of nowhere, the thought came into my head that I could win a lot of money right now,” Burrell told officials. “So, I asked him to make a quick stop.”
Burrell said her son pulled over at Baltimore’s Beverage Depot where she picked up a $50,000 Cash scratch-off.
The voice was right: Burrell won the game’s top prize of $50,000.
“I’ve heard the voice before,” she told officials. “I can’t remember it ever steering me wrong.”
Now, Burrell plans to use her prize to help in her search for a new house, according to officials.
“I’ve been looking around for a new house,” she said. “When I find the right one, I’ll have a much more impressive down payment ready than I did just last week.”
