Loose dog with ‘the saddest eyes’ rescued from busy NC interstate. He needs a new home
A dog with “the saddest eyes” was rescued from a busy interstate — and now he needs a new home, a North Carolina shelter said.
The dog — aptly named Lucky — got a second chance after he was found running loose at an interstate exit in early November. A driver spotted him and pulled over, Burlington Animal Services wrote Nov. 18 in a Facebook post.
The dog came right to the woman along Interstate 85, a thoroughfare that connects Charlotte, Atlanta and other major Southeastern cities. The rescue was reported in the Burlington area, where I-85 is combined with Interstate 40.
The woman, described as a “nice angel,” brought Lucky to her own home overnight before going to the shelter the next day. She also took time to let Burlington Animal Services know more about the dog, officials said.
“He was so sweet, loves toys (especially soft ones) and seems to be a snuggler,” the woman said in the Facebook post. “He has the saddest eyes. I know he is a great dog, he just needs a chance.”
After attempts to find Lucky’s owner were unsuccessful, he went up for adoption. He still needed a home as of Nov. 20, Laura Michel, a spokesperson for Burlington Animal Services, told McClatchy News in a phone interview.
Lucky, estimated to be about 1 year old, already knows how to sit and do other training skills. The dog also tested positive for heartworms, and treatment is included in his adoption fee, the shelter said.
