Dog gets head stuck in bowl for days. Then Texas rescuers pull out drones and traps
An object covering a loose dog’s head meant she needed to be trapped quickly so she could get the help she needed.
The dog running through Manvel, Texas, was terrified if people got near her and would bolt if someone came close to her, police said in a Facebook post on July 16.
The bowl stuck on her head was preventing her from eating or drinking, photos show. This prompted rescuers to take more serious action — equipping themselves with traps and drones to keep eyes on the dog with the hope of getting her to a vet, officials said.
“They darted [her] but [she] ran off into the [woods] and they weren’t able to locate [her] with drones,” Manvel Mayor Dan Davis said in a Facebook comment on July 16.
She ran into the woods after police attempted to shoot her with a tranquilizer to capture her, according to Kellye Pearson-Baker, a community member helping with the search efforts.
Pearson-Baker later announced that the dog had been captured around 1:30 p.m. on July 17. She did not explain how exactly the dog was finally rescued.
“I got her,” she wrote in a comment. “We’re on our way to the vet.” Police also confirmed that the dog had been captured.
Manvel is about a 25-mile drive south of Houston.
