A brave dog who was close to death has proven to be a survivor at one Philadelphia shelter. But he’s now facing another challenge: waiting for a home while being overlooked among the kennels.

Just less than two years prior, Canelo, a chocolate brown pit bull, was rescued from “the brink of death,” the Pennsylvania SPCA said in a July 30 Facebook post. While the shelter is proud that Canelo has bounced back from the edge, they are forced to watch him be constantly passed up for a family.

“Rescued by our Animal Law Enforcement team just in time, he showed us just what it means to persevere. Since then, he has blossomed into a wonderful companion, but sadly, he has been waiting for his forever home for over a year now,” the post said, along with posted a sweet photo of Canelo relaxing in the grass.

“While Canelo has made incredible strides in his healing journey, life in the shelter has proven to be incredibly stressful for him. Amid the chaos of barking and unfamiliar faces, he struggles to find his calm. But step outside with his friends, and you’ll see a different side of him - Canelo becomes relaxed and at ease, a gentle soul ready to truly live life.”

People flooded the comment section of the post with love for the beautiful boy.

“He is precious. If I didn’t already have two pitties, I would come and get him. They are the most loving and loyal dogs. I truly love them for the wonderful animals that they are,” one person said.

“Good luck Canelo. Hope that you find your forever. Just gotta be your turn now handsome,” another commented.

“What a looker!” someone noted.

According to the post, Canelo would prefer to be the only pet in the home so he can get some much-needed attention.
