Two school buses were involved in an accident that sent 17 students to the hospital, a Texas school district said.

The crash happened the morning of Dec. 11, the Cleveland Independent School District said in a Facebook post. Two district buses were involved.

The 17 students were sent to the hospital as a precautionary measure, the district said in the post.

McClatchy News reached out to Cleveland police about the accident but did not immediately receive a response.

As of 9 a.m., the school district said students are still being evaluated and families of students involved are being contacted.

Students medically cleared at the hospital were taken to Cleveland Middle School and are being monitored by nursing staff, according to the district.

The district did not say what led up to the crash but said authorities are investigating.

Cleveland is about a 45-mile drive northeast from Houston.
