A Maryland woman thought she wasn’t seeing straight when she checked her lottery ticket.

She stared at the digital display inside a Hughesville liquor store after she scanned her $4 Bonus Match 5 ticket and couldn’t believe what it was telling her, Maryland Lottery officials said in a Feb. 10 news release.

“I thought it was wrong,” the woman told lottery officials. “I had to keep cleaning my glasses to make sure I was seeing the right message.”

But there were no smudges on her lenses — the player won the game’s top prize of $50,000 using a mix of birth dates and random numbers, according to lottery officials.

“I was totally shocked,” the winner told lottery officials.

After spending some of her winnings on home improvements, the woman said she plans to tuck the rest away in savings.

“It is a real blessing,” she told lottery officials.

Hughesville is about a 60-mile drive southwest from Baltimore.
