A Maryland woman won a huge lottery prize after heeding advice from a family member, lottery officials said.

The lucky player from Baltimore told lottery officials she was running errands with her relative and decided to purchase a lottery ticket during a stop for gas at a gas station in Towson, about a 10-mile drive north from Baltimore.

With her thoughts leaning toward playing Keno, her relative revealed his own game plan, the Maryland Lottery said in a Feb. 11 news release.

“Get a Pick 5 ticket and use these numbers,” the relative told the woman, according to lottery officials.

The woman told lottery officials her relative said the numbers were significant to him because they were the licensing tag from one of his cars, and he had a “good feeling” about them.

It’s a good thing she listened to her family member, because that ticket won her a $50,000 prize, the lottery said.

“I thought to myself, ‘This can’t be real,” the woman said.

She said while studying the lottery results, she started feeling very nervous, according to lottery officials.

“Every time I looked at them and they still matched, I started sweating even more,” she said. “It was like holding dynamite.”

Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5 prizes are based on the amount of money bet, according to the lottery.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
