Lottery player wins big in Maryland — but will keep it a secret. ‘It’s a blessing’
A Maryland woman plans to keep her $50,000 lottery win a secret while doing some good with the haul.
The Baltimore County woman claimed her prize this week after buying the lucky scratch-off ticket at a gas station in Windsor Mill, the Maryland Lottery said in a Feb. 13 news release.
The winner “has no plans to celebrate or do anything out of the ordinary to avoid tipping people off to her top-prize win on the Deluxe Crossword 9th Edition instant ticket,” officials said.
Instead, she’ll tend to her own finances and help out her family, according to officials.
“It’s a blessing. I look at it like that,” the woman said of her win, according to lottery officials.
The woman likes the anticipation of lottery games and intends to keep playing, officials said.
“It’s like a hobby. I don’t do anything else,” she said, according to lottery officials.
Her win is the third at the $50,000 level since the $5 game went on sale in September, lottery officials said.
That leaves five still available, officials said.
Other remaining prizes include eight at the $10,000 level, 26 at the $1,000 level and thousands more in smaller increments, according to officials.
Windsor Mill is about a 20-mile drive northwest from Baltimore.
