Man was ‘disappointed’ when he saw someone won lottery in Maryland — but it was him
A couple saw someone had won the lottery and were “disappointed,” Maryland Lottery officials said.
They soon realized they had won, and they had won big – a $3.3 million jackpot, according to a March 6 news release by the Maryland Lottery.
The lucky duo bought the $6 Multi-Match ticket in Parkville and although they had been there the day before for tickets for the Feb. 24 drawing, they didn’t compare the numbers to the winning combination, officials said.
“As crazy as it sounds, I didn’t want to jinx it. I just wanted to hold on to that feeling that I’d won as long as possible,” they told officials.
The couple went “three whole days” before checking if they were millionaires, officials said.
“When I scanned the ticket, I saw a message about visiting the Lottery. I knew that was a good sign,” they said, according to the release.
Even then, they still didn’t check the numbers, officials said.
“We figured that we’d won something, so we made an appointment to visit the Lottery,” they said.
They learned of their huge win at lottery headquarters, officials said.
The lucky couple plans to use the money to help cover family debt and to donate to their favorite charities and their church, officials said.
“With our retirement secure, we’ll have to do some thinking about how to enjoy this. I know we will,” they said in the release.
Parkville is about a 20-mile drive northeast of Baltimore.
