A dad excited about his $2,000 lottery prize told his son he had a big win coming and bought another ticket for the game in North Carolina.

Then he hit a prize with more zeroes.

Terry McCall of Orange County won a $100,000 second-tier prize in the $30 Millionaire Bucks scratch-off game, the North Carolina Education Lottery announced March 10.

McCall bought his ticket at a convenience store in Graham.

“It was just my usual routine,” he told lottery officials. “I go by that same store every day.”

Inspired by his recent big win on a Millionaire Bucks ticket in December, McCall said he decided to buy another ticket.

“I actually told my son two weeks ago, ‘I’m going to hit a big one soon,’” he told lottery officials.

After taxes, his winnings came out to $71,758, which he said he plans to put toward bills and helping his family, according to the N.C. Education Lottery.

Orange County is about a 40-mile drive northwest from downtown Raleigh.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
