Sunny and 72: Sacramento’s unseasonably warm, dry February continues this weekend
Sacramento will get at least one more weekend of shorts and T-shirt weather before February ends.
The latest National Weather Service forecasts predict a high of 73 degrees Friday and 72 on a sunny Saturday. Sunday should cool to around 65 degrees, but then it’s right back to the low 70s to start next week.
Farther south, a storm system swirling off the coast will drop widespread rain in Southern California on Saturday, and very light rain and snow showers could reach the northern San Joaquin Valley, parts of the south Bay Area and the southern Sierra Nevada range, according to the NWS.
But all indications are that Sacramento and northward will remain totally dry. The capital city has had zero precipitation since Jan. 26, remaining on pace for its first rain-free February in recorded history.
One of the culprits for this warm and dry month, weather experts told The Bee early last week, has been a high-pressure ridge parked over the Pacific.
Current forecasts show Sacramento could hit as high as 75 degrees by middle of next week. That’d be about 12 degrees hotter than the average for late February, which is about 63 degrees, according to NWS data.
Is it a good weekend for Tahoe?
If you need fresh powder, no. If you like sunny skies, highs in the 50s and calm winds, then yes.
Both the south and north Lake Tahoe areas will see high temperatures around 50 degrees and overnight lows near 30 from Friday through midweek, with no snow or rain expected, according to NWS forecasts.
