Sacramento temps climb this weekend — and bad allergies hit. Here’s what to expect
Temperatures in Sacramento are expected to rise during the day Friday — and get even warmer this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Friday’s high is expected to reach 84 degrees and climb 7 degrees on Saturday to 92. Sunday’s high is expected to near 91 degrees.
Breezy winds are also expected this weekend, with gusts as high as 18 miles per hour Saturday. The NWS advises people to secure their outdoor belongings, avoid outdoor burning and to drive with caution.
Rain and thunderstorms passed through the Central Valley earlier this week, bringing in cooler temperatures and highs closer to the mid 60s. The upcoming weather signals a departure from this “unseasonably cool” weather.
Temperatures are around 10 to 15 degrees above average now, but this is not unusual for the area, said weather service meteorologist Cory Mueller.
“This isn’t uncommon for May,” Mueller said. “Seeing low 90s is pretty normal for Northern California.”
The allergy index in Sacramento is medium as of Friday, according to Pollen.com. Friday’s tree pollen count was recorded as high, according to The Weather Channel, and this weekend’s grass pollen count is also expected to be high. Allergens will peak on Tuesday.
To prepare for the heat, the NWS recommends staying hydrated, dressing for the heat and applying sunscreen. Children and pets should not be left in the car in this weather.
But despite the air outside heating up, rivers remain cold, the NWS spokesman said. People swimming in the river should still wear a life vest to avoid catching hypothermia or other cold-related illnesses.
And clear skies throughout the weekend bode well for total lunar eclipse viewers Sunday night. The eclipse begins at 8:29 p.m. and ends at 9:53 p.m, according to Time and Date.
