How much rain and snow fell in Sacramento and Tahoe area? Here are the latest totals

Rain continues in Sacramento, but there will be a break this week before the next storm comes in over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

There is a chance of thunderstorms Tuesday but the bulk of the storm will move out of the area by the afternoon, said Katrina Hand, a weather service meteorologist.

“At least for the heavier stuff, that should be moving out later today,” said Hand. “Then overnight into early tomorrow we could see some lingering showers, mainly south of Interstate 80.”

Rain totals for Sacramento region

Below are 24-hour rain totals as of Tuesday morning throughout Sacramento area, according to the national weather service:
  • Sacramento. 0.48 inches
  • Roseville: 0.47 inches
  • Auburn: 0.67 inches
  • Folsom: 0.40 inches
  • Placerville: 0.75 inches
  • Davis: 0.51 inches

Snow totals

Below are 24-hour snow totals as of Tuesday morning according to the national weather service:

  • Grass Valley: 9.5 inches
  • Sierra Snow Lab: 3 feet
  • Kirkwood: 2.5 feet
  • Sierra at Tahoe: 2.3 feet
  • Palisades: 3.1 feet

Blizzard conditions are predicted in the Sierra for Tuesday, according to the weather service. Traveling up the mountain is highly discouraged.

Snow is forecast into Wednesday and conditions are expected to clear up Wednesday night, according to the weather service forecast.

What’s to come

Near-to-below freezing temperatures are predicted for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in Sacramento, according to the weather service forecast. Wednesday night into Thursday morning will be the coldest day 31 degrees.

Saturday afternoon, a second storm is predicted to bring in another rain system to the region at the start of the week. Snow will return to the foothills and mountains Saturday and Sunday.
