USA vs. Belgium: Where to catch the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match today

Team USA faces Belgium for a place in the coveted FIFA World Cup quarter-finals today, and here’s how you can catch the match if you’re in the Sacramento area.

The U.S. Men’s National Team is the last remaining host nation in the FIFA World Cup, after Mexico and Canada were knocked out during their respective Round of 16 matches this past weekend. Scheduled to clash against Belgium in Seattle, if team USA advances, they will earn a spot in the tournament’s quarter-finals — a feat the men’s American team has not achieved since the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where their tournament run in Korea and Japan ended in an 0-1 loss to Germany.

Beyond fans’ excitement for team USA’s strong tournament showing — the team has clinched three wins in four matches, with their only defeat against Türkiye — the match-up has generated additional buzz after FIFA lifted striker Folarin Balogun’s one-match suspension. The 25-year-old leading scorer for the USMNT was shown a red card in the USA’s match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Per FIFA rules, a red card results in the immediate ejection of the player from the match and a one-game suspension.

FIFA lifted the suspension — which would have ruled Balogun out of today’s Round of 16 match against Belgium — after President Trump reportedly called FIFA President Gianna Infantino to request a review of the foul on Thursday. The decision has prompted criticism from the Union of European Football Associations and the Royal Belgian Football Association.

With a quarter-final placement on the line and off-pitch controversy adding to the tension, the stage has been set for a compelling showdown between the USMNT and Belgium. The match kicks off at 5 p.m. PST Monday, July 6. Here’s how you can catch it at a watch party, on TV or using streaming services:
