Sports Night: What 49ers’ loss to Broncos reveals

Matt Barrows: Thoughts on 49ers’ loss

The 49ers play Saturday exactly like they practiced against the Broncos in Englewood, Colo. this week, and Thursday's session was especially similar. It was marked by lapses – mostly on the right side of the line – false starts and botched snaps. Each of those errors make an appearance Saturday.

Former Granite Bay High star Tommy Thompson, one of three players loaned to Sacramento from the San Jose Earthquakes earlier in the day, scores what proved to be the game winning goal and assists on another in Republic FC’s 3-1 win over the Tulsa Roughnecks FC in front of announced sellout of 11,442 at Bonney Field.

Giants: St. Louis erupts in the fifth

The visiting Cardinals hand San Francisco its 12th shutout loss of the season, 6-0, as Ryan Vogelsong is knocked out during a four-run fifth inning.

A’s: Vogt atones

A night after his mistakes led to another Oakland loss, Stephen Vogt finds redemption at the plate. Vogt hits a splashdown homer into the Chase Field swimming pool and drives in three runs as the A’s beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2.
