Sports Night: 49ers’ roster a lot different now

49ers: They got younger – did they get better?

The Bee’s Matt Barrows notes that in one offseason, the 49ers went from being one of the 10 oldest teams in the league to being the eighth youngest. Will that translate into victories?

▪ What’s edgier than a black alternate jersey? The 49ers will wear them for their season opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

A’s: Doolittle’s save a long time in the works

For the first time in nearly a year, A’s left-hander Sean Doolittle was back in his familiar role as the A’s closer Monday. That turned out to be bad news for the playoff-hungry Houston Astros, who lost 10-9.

Giants: Leake roughed up in loss to Arizona

San Francisco starting pitcher Mike Leake is pounded on Monday in a 6-1 loss to the host Arizona Diamondbacks. It was the Giants’ eighth loss in 10 games.

River Cats: First year as Giants affiliate ends with win

The River Cats completed their first season as the Giants’ Triple-A affiliate with an 11-0 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes at Raley Field. Perhaps fittingly, Matt Cain, on a rehab assignment for the Giants, pitched the final two innings before an announced crowd of 12,488 at Raley Field.
