Capitol Corridor schedules special trains to Bay Area for FIFA World Cup
From June 13 to July 1, the Capitol Corridor passenger rail service will offer special direct train service to the arena in Santa Clara for FIFA World Cup 2026 matches. Capitol Corridor announced on Tuesday that train service will be coordinated to “offer a convenient option for riders traveling to and from the matches,” read the press release.
Six tournament matches are scheduled to take place at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium, aka Levi’s Stadium, during the World Cup. Beginning with a 12 p.m. match between Qatar and Switzerland on June 13 and ending with a 5 p.m. Round of 32 match on July 1, Capitol Corridor trains will arrive at the Santa Clara/Great America Station (GAC) in time for the games.
For evening games, Capitol Corridor has also scheduled late-night train service for fans returning home. The coordinated service, said the press release, will offer “an alternative to driving and parking” for sports fans.
The Capitol Corridor operates between Colfax and San Jose. The press release also noted that, in addition to the special stops scheduled for the World Cup, that regular service to the Santa Clara/Great America Station will also continue to operate. However, some regularly scheduled trains will be canceled on match days, according to the Capitol Corridor’s FIFA train schedule.
A detailed schedule for trains to and from Sacramento is available on the Capitol Corridor’s FIFA World Cup webpage, along with match dates and times. In recent years, Capitol Corridor has offered tailored train service to special events such as Super Bowl LX in February and two Taylor Swift concerts in 2023. According to Amtrak, the Super Bowl service earlier this year carried 5,000 riders to the game, a record-high number for Capitol Corridor.
“Having the World Cup here in Northern California is a major moment, and we want getting to the stadium to be part of the experience,” said Capitol Corridor Managing Director Robert Padgette said in Tuesday’s statement. “Our special service gives fans an easy way to travel together, relax onboard, and arrive ready for the match.” Train tickets are available at the Capitol Corridor website.
