Sacramento Kings re-sign veteran sharpshooter for 2025-26 NBA season
The Kings are bringing back a veteran sharpshooter who provided some memorable moments while playing a limited role in Sacramento last season.
A league source told The Sacramento Bee the Kings have re-signed Doug McDermott to a one-year deal, as first reported by ESPN. Agents Mark Bartelstein and Andy Shiffman of Priority Sports told ESPN the deal is worth $3.6 million.
McDermott, 33, is a 6-foot-6, 225-pound forward. The 11-year NBA veteran came out of Creighton as the No. 11 pick in the 2014 NBA draft. He has played for seven teams, including the Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers and San Antonio Spurs.
McDermott has career averages of 8.6 points and 2.1 rebounds. He averaged career highs of 13.6 points and 3.3 rebounds for the Pacers in 2020-21.
Nicknamed “Dougie McBuckets,” McDermott is a career 41.1% 3-point shooter. He shot 43.6% from long distance while averaging 3.5 points in 8.1 minutes per game for the Kings last season.
McDermott electrified the Sacramento crowd when he came off the bench to make 6 of 7 from 3-point range while scoring 18 points in eight minutes in a 141-97 victory over the Utah Jazz on Dec. 8. He went 5 of 6 from beyond the arc with 15 points in 11 minutes in a 132-123 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Jan. 23.
McDermott will be expected to provide occasional bench scoring and wing depth for a team that features Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Keegan Murray and Domantas Sabonis with Dennis Schroder coming in to man the point guard position.
