Zocalo’s midtown Sacramento location has closed after two employees tested positive for COVID-19, the Mexican restaurant posted to social media Wednesday morning.
Neither employee had been inside the restaurant for at least 10 days, Zocalo wrote. The restaurant at 1801 Capitol Ave. will remain closed for outdoor dining, takeout and delivery until Saturday to give cleaners time to sanitize and employees time to regroup.
“With cases rising in our community, we knew that Zócalo was not immune to the pandemic. Despite our absolute best efforts to prevent it, we have been made aware of two separate (COVID)-19 test results within our (m)idtown restaurant,” Zocalo wrote.
Ernesto Jimenez opened the first Zocalo in midtown in 2003, and it quickly emerged as a happy hour favorite thanks to fruity cocktails and a range of shareable plates under $8. Locations in The UV shopping center in Sierra Oaks and The Fountains in Roseville remain open. Another is expected to open in Folsom later this year.
