Micro food hall shuttered all three Sacramento-area kitchens in a two-month span
A ghost kitchen chain quietly exited the capital region market when it closed its last remaining area location in Davis.
In the last two months, Local Kitchens shut down its final three kitchen operations in the Sacramento area, culminating with the downtown Davis location, at 500 First St., Suite 13A. It originally opened in spring 2022 in the unit formerly housing Pluto’s.
The company did not release a statement on the closure, but the Davis spot is no longer listed on its website as of Monday. A representative for Local Kitchens did not reply to a request for comment Monday morning.
The Bee previously reported on the ghost kitchen’s Natomas closure in September and Roseville shut down in October. Local Kitchen’s vice president of marketing said in an emailed statement that the Natomas outpost was closed due to relatively poor performance compared to other locations.
The California food hall group had 10 locations across the state as of early September, and only four Bay Area spots were listed on its website Monday morning. The ghost kitchen originally served dishes from small local businesses and regional chains, such as Nash & Proper and The Melt, but it has since shifted its focus to offering a mostly bespoke menu with multicultural meals designed by celebrity chefs.
In addition to the three recently shuttered kitchens, Local Kitchens previously operated a shop in Granite Bay, which has since closed, and reportedly planned a Citrus Heights location that never materialized.
