Falconry Controversy in California

A Sacramento falconer posted a Department of Fish and Wildlife test online and was charged with a crime. Was it retaliation from state wildlife regulators?

Karl Kerster, a Sacramento falconer who’s an outspoken critic of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, was charged with possession of stolen property after he posted a copy of a state falconry test on Facebook in 2020.

Kerster says he posted the test in protest after he tried to get the state to correct misleading or incorrect answers. California game wardens said it cost taxpayers $5,020 to replace the test, due to Kerster’s unauthorized leak.

The charge against Kerster recently was dismissed. Read the game warden’s investigative report below.
