Woman struck by gunfire not intended target in shooting, Sacramento police say
Detectives on Thursday were seeking information about a shooting Wednesday in Sacramento that seriously injured a woman who did not appear to be the intended target.
Shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday police officers were called to a report of shots fired the 4000 block of Broadway in Sacramento’s Oak Park neighborhood.
The officers arrived at the scene and found the woman struck by gunfire. She suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound, according to a news release from the Sacramento Police Department. She’s listed in critical condition, police officials said Thursday afternoon.
Officials said information in the investigation was “extremely limited,” but detectives believe the woman was not the intended target.
The Broadway shooting was the third shooting Wednesday in the Sacramento area that resulted in injuries.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office reported a shooting about 2 a.m. Wednesday on Stacy Avenue, off of Stockton Boulevard, in South Sacramento that left one man dead and another injured.
The Sheriff’s Office also reported a shooting that occurred about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of 68th Avenue and Della Circle in the county’s Florin neighborhood. Four men and one boy were hit gunfire in the Florin shooting; one of the men was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Saturday evening, four people were injured and another was killed in shooting at a house party on Gardendale Road in the Meadowview area, according to Sacramento police.
In total, four Sacramento area shootings in less than a week have resulted in three deaths and 10 people injured hurt, and no arrests have been announced or suspect descriptions released for any of the shootings.
