The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified a 12-year-old boy who was among five victims who died after five shootings shook the Sacramento region over the weekend.

Santino Contreras was walking about 6 p.m. Saturday in the Meadowview neighborhood when he was shot at least once, according to the Sacramento Police Department. Officers were called to the 7600 block of 22nd Street near Meadowview Road. The boy was soon pronounced dead at the scene.

Officer Allison Smith, a spokeswoman for the Police Department, said the there was an altercation just prior to Contreras’ shooting death, but it was immediately unclear how the boy was involved.

Contreras was the third and final fatal victim of shootings that broke out Saturday. Two men were shot earlier on J and 24 streets, one of whom died after 1 a.m. Saturday incident. A woman died in the College/Glen neighborhood about 5 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Early Sunday, two people were killed in what police called related to sideshows that unfolded in South Natomas and in North Sacramento. Another person was injured.

The family of Contreras has set up a GoFundMe to help his mother, mourning the loss of her oldest son.
