Yolo DA files murder charge in West Sacramento park shooting that killed teen
Yolo County prosecutors have charged a man with murder in the shooting of a 16-year-old Sacramento boy killed last week in what police have called a drug deal gone bad in broad daylight at a West Sacramento park.
Adrek Isaac Miramontes, 19, of Sacramento, faces a murder charge in the death of Adrian Carter. The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office filed a criminal complaint against Miramontes on Monday Morning.
Miramontes remains in custody at the Yolo County Jail, where he has been held since his arrest Thursday. He is scheduled to appear for his arraignment Monday afternoon in Yolo Superior Court.
Court records show Miramontes facing enhancements to the murder charge that allege he committed a premeditated murder and used a gun in the crime. He also faces two counts of attempted murder in connection with the Summerfield Park incident.
It’s unclear who were the victims associated with the attempted murder charges, which include enhancements that also allege Miramontes acted with premeditation and used a gun in the crimes.
The West Sacramento Police Department has not released any information that indicated other victims were involved in last week’s shooting.
The deadly shooting was reported shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday at Summerfield Park located at 2950 Linden Road, just west of Jefferson Boulevard in West Sacramento.
Police said officers responding to the shooting found the wounded teen, who was taken by ambulance to a hospital. He succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital.
Detectives investigating the fatal shooting obtained arrest and search warrants for Miramontes. On Thursday morning, the detectives served the warrants at a Sacramento County home linked to Miramontes. He was found in the home and arrested.
On Saturday, police officials revealed the deadly shooting at the park occurred during a marijuana drug deal “gone bad.”
Another 16-year-old boy was hospitalized over the weekend after he was seriously wounded Friday night in a shooting in a West Sacramento residential neighborhood. Police believe Friday’s shooting, which occurred shortly before 10 p.m. near Linden Road and Allan Avenue, was committed in retaliation for the homicide at nearby Summerfield Park.
Investigators identified a suspect in Friday’s shooting, a 17-year-old juvenile from Sacramento County, who was located early Saturday and taken into custody with help from the Sacramento Police Department.
In response to the two shootings, which occurred a few blocks from each other, officers were sent Monday to West Sacramento high schools in the Washington Unified School District to provide an increased police presence.
In a statement released Sunday, the Police Department said officers will be present to start the week “to help ensure a calm and safe environment.” Carter, the teen killed in the park shooting, was a former Washington Unified School District student.
