Land Park pizza parlor closes after employee tests positive for the coronavirus

Buffalo Pizza & Ice Cream Co. is closed indefinitely after an employee tested positive for COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus.

All employees have or will be tested before reopening and the restaurant will be deep-cleaned, according to Buffalo’s social media post Thursday afternoon.

“It happened. Earlier today we were notified that a crew member tested positive for COVID-19,” the post read. “We’re a small shop, and despite our best efforts, we knew this was a possibility. The health and safety of those not only within our organization, but their families, our customers and neighbors continues to be our top priority.

“Keep wearing your masks. Continue to social distance. We’ll be back soon and can’t wait to see your [masked] faces again!”

The restaurant at 2600 21st St. is known for its breakfast pizzas topped with eggs, no sauce and ingredients like Canadian bacon. Buffalo also sells house-made ice cream under the Cornflower Creamery label and has an extensive vegan pizza menu.

Buffalo is the fifth Sacramento-area restaurant to announce temporary closure due to staff members confirmed or feared to have COVID-19 in the last four days, following de Vere’s Irish Pub and Zocalo in midtown, Marly And Moo in Folsom and The Burger Saloon in Woodland.

More than 6,700 Californians and 132,000 Americans have died from COVID-19 as of Thursday, according to The COVID Tracking Project and Johns Hopkins University CSSE.

Cases have spiked locally over the last two weeks, and 152 confirmed COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized in Sacramento County, including 43 in the ICU, according to state data.
