South Sacramento County Residents in Point Pleasant are still under an evacuation order as of Tuesday morning as the region prepares for a second major storm to hit on Wednesday.

Point Pleasant and other communities close to the Cosumnes and Mokelumne rivers have been flooded since the atmospheric river system hit the region on New Year’s Eve, causing significant power outages across the county and at least two confirmed deaths.

Residents of neighboring Wilton, where two levees failed on Sunday on a portion of the Cosumnes river, are still ordered to shelter in place, while Glanville Track and Franklin Pond residents are under an evacuation warning.

Sacramento County officials predict that the evacuation status for these communities won’t change by Wednesday, but they urge all community members to sign up for Sac Alert to stay up to date with evacuation orders, and to call 311 to report any non-emergency incidents related to storm, such as fallen trees or blocked roadways.

The county has also set up an evacuation center at the Wackford Community Center, 9401 Bruceville Road, Elk Grove. Since evacuations were mandated for Point Pleasant on Sunday, the center has only seen five evacuees and one dog. There is plenty of capacity for the affected region, said Kim Nava, Sacramento County’s director of public information.
